Obtaining a Merchant Card Account

As a business operator, you need to determine the fastest, most convenient, and most cost-effective ways you can be paid for your products/services. If you run a retail business or offer professional services, you probably want to be able to accept credit card payments. It seems like a good idea because 80% or more of all purchases are paid for via credit card. The good news about accepting credit cards is you get your money fast.

If you consider accepting credit card payments, the process simply involves finding a bank that will accept you as a merchant card customer. If you are home based business, you may have a tougher time being approved for a merchant account, but if you provide financial statements and tax returns showing you are a solid business, you will most likely find some bank willing to help you set up a merchant credit card account. It’s important to shop around for the best deal when trying acquire a merchant account, because fees vary dramatically. Oftentimes the best deal can be found at your own bank because they will often waive or reduce some of the fees for their own commercial customers.
